Svenska nikotinp\u00e5sar har utl\u00f6st en obefogad moralpanik \u00f6ver hela Europa. L\u00e4nder letar desperat efter det r\u00e4tta s\u00e4ttet att n\u00e4rma sig denna nya produkt. Sverige \u00e4r en nation med en historia av snusanv\u00e4ndning som str\u00e4cker sig \u00f6ver 200 \u00e5r och nyligen f\u00f6delseplatsen f\u00f6r s\u00e4krare tobaksfria nikotinp\u00e5sar. Missuppfattningar om produktens sammans\u00e4ttning och faror bidrar till larmet. Medan alla nikotinprodukter inneh\u00e5ller en beroendeframkallande komponent, \u00e4r riskerna med cigaretter \u00e4r f\u00f6rsumbara<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ett rationellt tillv\u00e4gag\u00e5ngss\u00e4tt f\u00f6r att ta itu med dessa problem skulle inneb\u00e4ra att studera ursprungslandet, som redan framg\u00e5ngsrikt har brottats med dessa fr\u00e5gor, och att utforma lagstiftningen i enlighet d\u00e4rmed. M\u00e5let \u00e4r att uppmuntra individer att \u00f6verg\u00e5 fr\u00e5n den mer skadliga produkten (dvs. cigaretter) till s\u00e4krare alternativ som nikotinp\u00e5sar eller snus.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ist\u00e4llet f\u00f6r att anses vara farliga, anses smaker vara en av de fr\u00e4msta anledningarna till att m\u00e4nniskor byter fr\u00e5n cigaretter till nikotinp\u00e5sar. Effekten \u00e4r mest uttalad bland svenska kvinnor, f\u00f6r vilka r\u00f6kfrekvensen har sjunkit med 40% sedan lanseringen av nikotinp\u00e5sar. Samtidigt har kvinnors anv\u00e4ndning av snus och nikotinp\u00e5sar\u00f6kade<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trots Sveriges framg\u00e5ng med att minska r\u00f6kfrekvensen genom denna transformativa skademinskningsmodell har vissa l\u00e4nder, som Nederl\u00e4nderna, valt ett fullst\u00e4ndigt f\u00f6rbud. F\u00f6ljaktligen g\u00e5r de miste om en livr\u00e4ddande produkt som redan har r\u00e4ddat tusentals liv i Sverige. I en Rapportera<\/a> fr\u00e5n Smoke Free Sweden \u00e4r det uppskattade antalet liv som kunde ha r\u00e4ddats i EU mellan 2000-2019 2,9 miljoner om alla l\u00e4nder hade samma r\u00f6krelaterade d\u00f6dlighet som Sverige. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arbetet med att f\u00f6rbjuda nikotinp\u00e5sar str\u00e4cker sig l\u00e4ngre \u00e4n till enskilda l\u00e4nder och har n\u00e5tt Europeiska unionen sj\u00e4lv n\u00e4r den str\u00e4var efter en enhetlig strategi f\u00f6r nya och framv\u00e4xande nikotinprodukter. Detta tillv\u00e4gag\u00e5ngss\u00e4tt skulle inte bara vara skadligt f\u00f6r l\u00e4nder som nu presenteras med ett betydligt h\u00e4lsosammare och s\u00e4krare alternativ p\u00e5 sin resa mot 2035 \u00e5rs r\u00f6kfria m\u00e5l. Det skulle ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6rs\u00e4tta Sverige i en ganska obekv\u00e4m situation d\u00e4r dess b\u00e4sta r\u00f6kers\u00e4ttning skulle f\u00f6rbjudas eller ber\u00f6vas de centrala delarna av dess framg\u00e5ng. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikotinp\u00e5sar har visat sin potential att r\u00e4dda liv genom att minska tobaksrelaterade skador. Att f\u00f6rbjuda dem ist\u00e4llet f\u00f6r att anta Sveriges framg\u00e5ngsrika regleringsmodell riskerar att bromsa v\u00e5ra framsteg mot en r\u00f6kfri framtid med h\u00e4lsosammare och l\u00e4ngre liv. V\u00e5rt fokus b\u00f6r f\u00f6rbli p\u00e5 att s\u00e4kerst\u00e4lla tillg\u00e4nglighet, undvika kontraproduktiva smak- eller nikotinrestriktioner och uppr\u00e4tth\u00e5lla en \u00e5ldersgr\u00e4ns, kanske genom ett licenssystem, samtidigt som vi anpassar skatten f\u00f6r att anpassas till skadeniv\u00e5erna. I slut\u00e4ndan \u2013 och detta \u00e4r en punkt v\u00e4rd att upprepa \u2013 har nikotinp\u00e5sar potentialen att r\u00e4dda miljontals liv.
